Eligibility to apply for UPSC Civil service examination / CSAT

What is the educational qualification needed to appear in IAS, Civil services examination?

What is age limit and relaxation for appear in IAS / Civil service examination?

What is restrictions on number of attempts in IAS / Civil services examination?
Ans - Number of attempts :-
Civil Service Examination - General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST- No restriction
Can a candidate who has completed his education from open universities apply for Civil services exam?
Ans - Yes, provided it is a recognized University and he possess the educational qualifications prescribed for the exam and is otherwise eligible

Can a candidate choose an optional subject, which he has not studied at graduate/PG level? 
Ans - Yes

Is it necessary for a candidate to take the same optional subject in the Main Exam, which he had taken in the prelims Examination?
Ans - No

If a candidate has applied for the CS (P) Examination but has not appeared at any paper in the CS (P) Examination will it be counted as an attempt?
Ans - No. An attempt is counted only if a candidate has appeared in at least one paper in CS (P) Examination.

Is a candidate who has done his graduation without passing class X and class X11 eligible for Civil Service Examination?

Ans - Yes

Can a candidate write different papers of Civil Service (Main) Examination in different languages?

Ans - No, Candidates have the option to write their answers either in English or in any one of the Eighth schedule languages.

Can a candidate write the Civil Service (Main) Examination in English and take the interview in Hindi or any other Indian language?

Ans - The candidates, opting for Indian Language medium for the written part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, may choose either the same Indian Language or English or Hindi as the medium for the interview.
The candidates, opting to write the Civil Services (Main) Examination in English, may choose as the medium for interview either English or Hindi or any other Indian Language opted by them for the compulsory Indian Language Paper in the written part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination.  However, the candidates, who are exempted from the compulsory Indian Language Paper, will have to choose either English or Hindi as medium of Interview of Personality Test.

Civil Service Examination Overview

Civil Service Examination is a nation wide competitive exam, conducted by UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission) to recruiting various civil services of Government of India including IAS(Indian Administrative Service, IFS (Indian Foreign Service, IPS (Indian Police Service) ,  and IRS (Indian Revenue Service ). 

Since 2013, it's for the first time the Indian Forest Service (IFS) aspirants are combined with the Civil Services aspirants to take the Preliminary examination. The aspirants who may clear the Preliminary exam have to separately write the Mains exams for Indian Forest Service.
